Marisa is the founder and owner of Tropic of Flowers, an immersive event design studio based in Los Angeles. Her work has taken her around the world—from LA, New York, Latin America, the Bahamas, and Europe. A queer Latinx woman, Mari utilizes design in all its facets as a tool to expand perspectives. She was named an “industry-leading changemaker” by The Knot for her efforts to diversify and reimagine the event industry.
Trained at the School of Visual Arts and Hampshire College, Mari has a background in graphic design, branding, styling, film and fine art. Her entrepreneurial spirit has led her to create a number of successful businesses and cultural projects, including the design studio and retail space Otherwild, the celebrated queer nightlife events Rumours & Personal Best, the t-shirt line Closet Case, and Tropic of Flowers.
Mari is known for her intuitive ability to understand the emotional and aesthetic landscapes her clients wish to create, translating them seamlessly into designs that are both memorable and visually compelling. A child of immigrants, she grew up exploring the world and continues to draw inspiration from travel. She also loves disco, matcha, and life with her wife and two dogs, Busy and Bambi.
“Mari truly has a gift for transforming ordinary things and spaces into beautiful works of art! ”
